The Military vehicle trip

This will be perhaps one of the most interesting parts of the weekend. The idea originated with Robert Rankin and he will explain:

"'So what are we going to do next year, James?' I asked Mr Bacon. And together we came up with the Great Sproutlore Military Invasion of Brentford. That got the big thumbs down from the British Government, who apparently don't take kindly to private armies driving convoys across London. Boring sods! But, Mr Bacon being Mr Bacon, said, 'What about the Science Fiction Convention to end all Science Fiction Conventions, or begin all Science Fiction Conventions for the 21st Century?'"

Well I like the idea of a convoy of vehicles of all types.

My first place of contact was Mr. Terry Brooks (not to be confused with the other Terry Brooks of the same name). Terry has over a dozen tracked vehicles in his collection. I was a bit concerned about what his reaction would be to my suggestion, linking MV enthusiasts with SF enthusiasts.

Well he was all for the idea, explaining "MV guys just want to have a good time, and drive their vehicles".

He then came up with the idea to go to Woking as we brain stormed the event together, pointing out that this was where H.G. Wells wrote The war of the Worlds. He also said he knew where the sandpit, of invasion fame was and that we could go there.

It will take about an hour and a half to get there and the same back. We intend to leave Shepperton at eight o'clock in the morning on Sunday. I realise that this is early, but we have a lot on over the weekend and the convoy is only one part of the weekend.

It is our hope that we can get everyone at the convention to go on this trip.

We would also like if people would wear a uniform. Most people have some sort of army gear to hand, and if you don't, there are lots of army surplus shops selling it cheap. And we will have a special prize for the person who looks the most impressive, and another for the one who looks the most authentic.

There is a supplementary charge for this, but we assure you it will be well worth it.

I hope that you will take this opportunity to join up for the convoy if you have not already, WE NEED YOU.
