You guys have gotta try this software from Google. It is a huge map of the Earth with all kinds of useful features.
Best to have a look at the system specs first if you have an older computer and it needs broadband because there is a lot of info dumped on your computer.
It seems to be a work in progress ( Ah! must come back to that in a minute ) as there are large parts of the Earth not covered yet. Oh and it is free.
I saw the last minute or so of a music vid by a band called Work in Progress singing their song Waiting for a Girl. The song is not something I would listen to, but I'd sure love to get a copy of the vid. |

| How much of the maps are implemented, anyway? There's only so much fun you can have with those kind sof things when you don't know anywhere that has been mapped. |

Hard to answer that, the best i can say is a lot of the Earth is covered and a lot is not covered. Ireland only has 7 usefull maps, but England has a whole lot more and is still not fully covered. America is pretty much covered and they use high-res maps and 3D buildings. All the major places in Europe are covered, but some of the in-between places are not.
I understand that the database is being added to, but it is a hell of a lot of ground to cover
What is on the map is well worth a look. Just now I made a trip from New York to Dallas. |

| I should have explained this better. When I say the Earth on the map is covered/not covered, I do not mean there are large patchs that are empty. The whole map is covered with geographic details, mountians rivers that sort of thing. It is the satellite photos that of real interest. |

I agree. Some of the 3d maps are great. I ws looking at Dublin and I see only the city and northside are covered. Marino of course being one part of it.
Chip, how did you get them to cover your part of Dublin, and not mine. |

Oh wow.
That is just... I'm lost for words. I can see my house! I can actually see my house and the garden! And my office window, which is on a slant so I can almost pretend I can also see myself sitting there!
Okay, more playing to do. Wow. |

It does bring a whole new meaning to "I can see your house from here"
The map makers of old used to say that the only exact copy of a reigon could be made in the exact same scale. With Google Earth we are approaching that. The more I use it the more wonderful it seems.
Tonight I marked some of my friends house' and ploted a route from my house to them.
One can, with the touch of a button, get printer friendly copies of the way to and from anyones house. Yes, even from the Playboy Mansion. Pity there are no Very Hi Res Pics from there. |

Being an early supporter of C.J.H. gave me awesome powers. |

I know some of you guys are fans of Lego, so here is a link
http://www.googletouring.com/index.php
Go to 'Other' and you will see a Google Earth download that will give you a tour of the Lego HQ in Denmark.
That site also has some very interesting views for Google Earth. |

They've finally got most of Dublin at a decent resolution. Big improvement - lets hope it soon extends over the rest of the country.
This keeps getting better and better. I'm seriously tempted to upgrade to plus version which lets you do fun things like draw lines all over the maps for $20. |

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, it's only 20 bucks and I've often spent more than that on lesser stuff.
Dublin looks so much better now. |

| If only Maynooth had better maps, we could have made a group of placemarks pointing to places of interest around Octocon. The lodgings, places to eat, bus stops, train stations and of course The lovely Glenroyal Hotel. |
