Sci-Fi Club, Dublin, Ireland
Issue 7 - 2001-08-05

Greetings, puny Earthlings.
This month I've cheated a bit by copying a lot of last month's mail, *but*
there are a few things a need to update you all on.

DECEMBER:
We have 2 meeting in December. The first, on the 4th, is the Tolkien
Night. The other one is the 2nd (and now legendary) annual SciFiClub
Christmas Party, which will be held on the 18th. There are also plans
afoot to try to organise a major trip out to the cinema to see Lord of the
Rings, which is meant to open in December, as far as I know. Check out
the website, which is strongly reccomended by Chip Livingstone, at
http://www.lordoftherings.net/
Also, we'd like to confirm that the January 200 meeting is on the first
of the month, so if you're all a little overloaded with turkey curry, you
can head on down to SciFiClub, where we guarantee a turkey-free zone.

CYBERCON:
For those of you who were thinking of attending Cybercon, which was due
to take place in Belfast in 3 weeks time, I regret to have to tell you
that it was cancelled.
Chief organiser Graham Collier told us that "We lost over half our
attendees during the foot and mouth scare and it was not financially
viable to continue. We had to cancel Claudia (Christian)so lost our main
attraction and our main sponsor." however, he went on to say "I am still
determined to bring a media con to Ireland so I will try again next year
on a slightly smaller scale...", so keep watching this space for more
news. However, you can still visit Claudia in hyperspace at
http://www.claudiachristian.net/

TRICON:
I have received no news from the people in Limerick who were talking about
running a con in University of Limerick in November, so I'm guessing that
it is abandoned. That's 2 cons in a row I've told you about that are
gone, but fear not...

OCTOCON:
What do you mean "what's Octocon?" Go to www.octocon.com immediately!
Our premier annual SF outing is a great weekend out, if you've never been.
If you go once, you'll go again!

More next month!

AUGUST MEETING 07/08/2001
DUNE NIGHT
A little from the books, a little from the film, and a little from the
TV series. Wear desert gear.

SEPTEMBER MEETING 04/09/2001
THE NOW LEGENDARY QUIZ
What can we say about the quiz? We set the questions. You try to answer
them. Magnificent prizes guaranteed!

OCTOBER MEETING 02/10/2001
YOU'VE BEEN CONNED!
October sees the two biggest conventions in Ireland, Octocon and
GaelCon. We'll have people from both conventions to talk about what's
going on, and why they do it.

NOVEMBER MEETING 06/11/2001
COMICS NIGHT
The details on this one are still a little fuzzy, but involve getting a
major name in the comics field to talk to us. Watch this space for more
news.

DECEMBER MEETING 04/12/2001
TOLKIEN NIGHT
Are there any of you who haven't read "the Lord of the Rings" or "the
Hobbit"? Probably not. The influence of the creations of JRR Tolkien
is still to be felt in the field of fantasy writing, and we'd like to know
why.

JANUARY MEETING 01/01/2002
INTERNET ANIMATION
For some time now we've been intending to do a feature on the amount of
really good animation available on the Internet. So tonight's the night!

As usual, all meeting are held on the first Tuesday of the month, and
begin at 8.00 PM sharp. (Honestly.)

All meeting are held in:
The Upstairs Lounge,
Bowe's Pub,
Fleet Street,
Dublin 2.

Thank all for your time.
