Sci-Fi Club Award Winners Announced
Fri 9th May 2003
Dublin's Sci-Fi Club awarded its top acolades on Tuesday night in a glitzy star-studded ceremony. "Nearly everyone that matters was there," said co-host James Shields, "I understand a lot of Holywood stars wanted to come, but after last time they won't come if Chip Livingstone is present, and we know who takes precedence."
The ceremony was co-hosted by outgoing club organiser Frank Darcy, and incoming organiser James Shields. James wore the traditional tuxedo, but in a surprise move Frank wore a blue shirt to appeal to the masses.
The awards were announced by a variety of guests, with a high level of appreciation from the audience. The most hotly contested award was the "Best Website", which came down to a fierce battle between the co-hosts, with Frank winning by a single vote in the end. "I should have cast more votes for myself," admitted James afterwards.
The final award, which had been arranged without Frank's knowledge, was to show appreciation for Frank's involvement over the last year or so. "It's our equivelant of a lifetime achievment award," said James. "I'll get you for this," said Frank.
