Set of 3 books written by John Ringo and David Weber - far future, and Prince Roger is 3rd in line to throne. He is a spolit brat and his father suspected of plotting against the Empress. He gets sent on a minor diplomatic mission and his ship is sabotaged. They crash on a remote planet. Only the handful of Marines can keep him alive.
Somewhat predictable (against all odds they survive, and Roger grows up - though there is good reason why he was a brat).
Good military action, my onlt real gripe is why do they still sing "Danny Boy"?

I've read a couple of David Weber's Honor Harrington books, and I though they were well written, but rather too predictable, and barely sci-fi - if you swap the space setting for a naval one, it would make very little difference to the story. I guess he's the Patrick O'Brien of space opera.

I have no idea why people sing that song now, let alone in the future.

Give Honor Harrington a sex change and move her to the past and you have Horatio Hornblower - but to be fair Weber never tried to pretend otherwise
